Things are so busy lately, there's no time to take vacations.
However, its always nice when the family comes to visit, because I get to be a tourist for a few days in my own city.
NYC is like that.
This weekend, the occasion was my Mom's 60th bday. Happy birthday again!

We checked out the Top of the Rock at Rockerfeller Center. Amazing views, just make sure to wear nice shoes if you want to get into the bar.

Even though I have a membership to the MoMA, I don't make it up there enough.

Nice to see 2x4 representing on the Design floor.

Also the interesting light-work from Olafur Eliasson.
Other sightings...

Mr. Serritella modeling the new Margiela sunglasses. Was this before or after you got the shopgirl fired?

Feeling this wheatpaste posters downtown.

Dustin, the man behind the lens.
Our man Jason Lewis reports back from last week's MFT session. One of the best in a long time!
Respect to Daz-I-Kue who set the basement on fire, and the Ghostly International crew --Michna, Sam and Osborne--for a great vibe upstairs.
Stay tuned as we reveal some amazing guests for the summertime... soon come.

Always a pleasure to see Mrs. Omawale in the house!

I'm increasingly fascinated by Kanye's increasing fascination with product design. It seems like music takes the backseat to fashion, architecture and design on his frequently updated blog.
So it was cool to see that he picked up on my boy Olivier's Pump Seating. Olivier is a very talented young industrial designer who's just moved to NYC from Nice FR. Look for big things.

It's not every day that i get a really exciting looking cylinder in the post.

Will at If You Could was kind enough to send me this beautiful print from Barcelona-based designer Alex Trochut. Hot.

The limited run poster I did for Wayne Pate's GoodShapeDesign is now available via his site.

Ghostly and Adult Swim team up to give you Ghostly Swim. Preview and download new music from Dabrye, Michna, FLYamSam, and Osborne.

Respect to Khairi and the Naked Ping Pong crew for putting together this great recap from the PT3 a few weeks back... Check out Johan's powerful forehand.

After 10 years hiatus, the Portishead duo returns with their 4th album, appropriately titled "Third". Sounding big!

Maybe you know about my magazine obsession by this point.
One of my current favorites, Fantastic Man, just dropped last week.

Also like the look of this new newsprint magazine from Brooklyn called New Work. Quite similar vibe to E&A.

Spotted another dope truck today. This seems to be full on Barnstormers in effect... anyone have more info on these?

Yes yes. My Favorite Things -- the club night -- returns to APT next Tuesday April 15.
We're very excited to have one of our favorite bwoys in the business, DAZ-I-KUE from Bugz In The Attic, joining us in the basement. Daz is one of our favorite producer, dj's (and not a bad emcee), and one guy we've always wanted to have down at the party. Now, thanks to his recent relocation to Atlanta, its much easier for us to get him up here.
Upstairs, we've invited the crew from Ghostly International to take things over in celebration of their new compilation for Adult Swim, aptly entitled Ghostly Swim. Giveaways will be in order.
If you want to come down, we'd love to have have you. RSVP to secure your spot.

PT3 was a great success this year. We could have a used a few more inches of space during play, but the energy and vibe overshadowed any of the complications. Big up to Khairi for all of his hard work, powerHouse Arena for hosting the overflowing crowd, and Marty Reisman-- a true legend AND style icon (see above) for coming through. Oh yea, congrats to Grand Opening on their win. That dude was hard to beat.
Click here to see amazing photos from the night, thanks to Jason Lewis.

H&M enlists Rei Kawakubo for its next "capsule collection." More info here.

Jag over 14th St, courtesy of Dustin.

After being forced to take a cab after no sign of trains for 40 mins this morning, I was lucky enough to see this apparent Swoon x David Ellis truck riding through the city.
Lots of new and exclusive music to share this month. Season + Sygaire (aka Dirk Rumpff and Roskow from Jazzanova) take on the new 2 Banks of Four, while my man Leon King teams up with Dilla's little brother, Illa J. Also don't sleep on new tracks from Stacey Epps, J.Bless, and Daz-I-Kue's mix of 4 Hero (only on the web version of the show).

Its nice when two talented crews come together.
Check the new video for Matthew Dear's "Don and Sherry" on Ghostly International. Freaked by Plus et Plus.
This song is big.

Lots of new money floating around. Above are the new designs for the British currency, designed by 26 year old Matthew Dent, and chosen from over 4,000 entries. I love the crops, which all add up to the Royal Shield of Arms (if you put them together).

And then there's the new $5 bill floating around. Not sure I'm feeling it, but apparently it has increased security and legibility for the visually impaired. I guess that's Helvetica??

Complex just put up a little check-in with master of all thing quality, Hiroki Nakamura from Visvim. I found a pair of the Visvim/SOPH Hi Tops at APC in Soho NYC last week. (Thanks for the tip, Wayne). They might have a few more pairs left.

Great new site for creating a virtual mixtape that anyone can access... here's mine. If you make a hot one, send it thru.

Speaking of Parra, and So-Me...
Its cool to re-visit the jazz posters from Swiss designer/illustrator Niklaus Troxler. His body of work is pretty amazing. I especially like this this stuff he did in the late 70s.

and some other great work...

shouts to andrew.
