exposure celebrates a great 2009 next Thursday December 3 with the man like Dam-Funk on the wheels & keytar.

Over the last year, Jay Lewis and I have been hard at work on some project for Minotaur. Shouts to the main man Eiichi and thanks for the photo Kaneko!
Really late on this one, but the good news I have two shows lined up including the 2 year anniversary live from Tokyo. I'll make it up to you, I promise. Lots of good stuff last month including new cuts from Super Value and Dam-Funk, as well as more from my favorite group of the moment Electric Wire Hustle. And don't sleep on the new remix from The Twilight Tone and something special from Haircut AKA Mayer Hawthorne.
This month I've decided to switch over to SoundCloud which is a really great site for sharing music. You can find me here. I will start to archive the old shows there as well as some other bits and bobs. For a quick download of this months show, click the arrow on the right side of the player below.

I had the pleasure of meeting Andrew Bunney last week when he visited our office. In addition to be one of my favorite Honeyee bloggers, Andrew is the creative director of product for Dr. Martens and has recently launched a jewelry line of his own. Check him out.

Congrats to our man Dam Funk, who's album 'Toeachizown' came out last month and who currently graces the cover of The Fader. It's only going to get bigger in 2010.

Six Scents went down big time in Tokyo. Check the feature on Honeyee.

One night in Tokyo we got talking about the producer Nobukazu Takemura with the Jazzy Sport crew.
For me, this was the guy (along with people like UFO and DJ Krush) who really piqued my early interest in Japanese music.
After a few 12"s on international labels like Mo'Wax, he released his 1994 solo album 'Child's View', which combined a mad mixture of jazz, hip hop, brazilian and soul in a way that I think was way ahead of its time. Its the type of album that people bond over because its cherished by the relative few that are familiar with it. A true cult classic.
Takemura also ran a label in the 90s called Bellisima and produced a variety of projects like Spiritual Vibes and Kool Jazz Productions. Later in the decade he got more experimental in his productions creating albums for labels like Chicago's Thrill Jockey. Recently I've heard he's into comptuer animation and living in Germany. It kind of feels like he's always one step ahead, into the next thing.

I was so inspired that I used to write him letters when I was a teenager and eventually he began sending me records. I'll never forget it.
Here are a couple of my favorite moments from his Child's View record. If you like them, seek out the album where you can. I can't believe its already been 15 years.

In between Shibuya and Daikanyama I discovered one of the greatest bookstores, Tododo. They have an incredible selection of design, photography, architecture and art books. Here are a couple of finds:

My homie from Singapore Mark SBTG happened to be in Tokyo for the KicksLab event in his honor.
He continues to dominate in the world of custom sneakers through his brand RoyaleFam and is soon to launch some original footwear. He is also one of the most humble guys I know.

Big big thanks to everyone in Tokyo who made our trip this year so special.
