Just checked the premiere of an amazing documentary on the life and times of Bill Withers. If you are in NYC, check it out this week at the IFC. Otherwise look out for a screening near you.
One of the most exciting new dj/producers to look out for in 2010 is the promising young talent Kyle Hall. He's only 18 years old and has an impressive list of mentors from his hometown of Detroit that includes Omar S, Theo Parrish and Mike Huckaby. This kid is the truth!
Check out his recent mix of Darkstar's 'Aidys Girl Is A Computer' or this dj mix he made in anticipation of his upcoming gig at Fabric London.
I highly recommend a trip to Fela on Broadway. Really amazing performance and probably the closest thing to seeing him live if you didn't get the chance to.
I'm also excited about the forthcoming Steve McQueen directed biopic coming soon.
I wanted to congratulate my friend Eddie Huang on the opening of his first restaurant in NYC called Baohaus. A former lawyer, Eddie has also dabbled in stand-up comedy and running his own clothing line-- and he's only like 25.
Baohaus specialized in Taiwanese Gua Bao sandwiches -- skirt steak, pork belly and tofu -- and they are pretty damn good. They are also one of the only places in NYC to carry boiled peanuts, an appetizer that any true Southerner knows and loves.
